Who "runs" this world...? About International Women's Day

3/08/2015

Hello everyone!

Yes, all of you, because as well as for women for men this day should be important too.
Today, on 8th March, we're celebrating International Women's Day and I associate it not with giving flowers and buying high-caloried chocolates but with important aim this day should remind of.
At this day both men and women should show their respect for the women fighting for equality so that now in many, but still too little, countries we can be free, we can vote, we can go to work.

 ABOUT FEMINISM

In my opinion this respect we talk about should be shown every day, that's why, after deep analysis in my mind, I realised today that for longer time I've been feminist. Give me a minute to explain what actually "feminism" is, because those who have not enough knowledge will judge.
(I think, in fact,  this apparition works in major situations.)

Feminism isn't about showing the men they're worse. Feminists don't put the men on "lower level of sex ladder". Real feminists shouldn't hate men, they should love equality. That's what they've been fighting for. Some of the main feminism's assumes are:
- equal treatment
- equality in family life, work, policy and society
- help for women
- position of mothers in the society
(WE, women bear children and as far as I know it won't change in the future)
- stop for discrimination
- equal treatment also for homosexuals
and much more, but I chose the most important, I think.

WOMEN THEN

As we know from the history, women usually were treated worse. They were sitting at home, bringing children up. They usually didn't have chance in education and if they got it, their science discoveries were strictly ignored. Roles of women were usually ignored.
So FINALLY we had to have this moment when women said:
"STOP" and started to fight for their rights. Does it suprise you? Who wouldn't have fed up with it...!?
We can talk about sufraggettes for example, who left their houses and went on street cheering "We want to vote too! We want to decide!" - first they got this chance in New Zealand, later in Great Britain and USA.

                                                                    WOMEN NOW

We have to be aware of the fact that in many (too many) countries in this 21st century the women are treated not only unfair. They're treated INHUMANLY. I don't know where, you reading it, live but if it's Afganistan, Iran or Somalia you should consider a lot of things now.

Woman as an object.
Woman can't be educated.
Woman is worth one half of that what the man is.
Woman betrayed - kill her.
Woman can't go out without permission from the husband.
Woman should get married at the teenage age - sometimes even 10.
Sex for the husband is a duty.
Woman has to be circumcised.
You can buy your woman. Sometimes you don't even need to pay for her.
Woman has to be a slave.
Woman gets lower payment.

Now, consider. How does it sound? It's inhuman. It's terrible. I can't get how is it possible in our "modern" times. But it is. You should be aware of it. You must react.

WHAT WE CAN DO?

As an individual we can change things, but as a group we can change more.
Think about these women who are treated the ways you read above. You, women and men are part of this world too and you can't live for yourselves only. And maybe it sounds non-logical but it's worth fighting for something worth fighting for.

1. Join the organisations.

There is plenty of organisations you can support, going out and take part in actions but also sitting comfortably at home. Here are some international to check:

 - International Alliance of Women - to advocate suffrage

International Federation of University Women - to promote women's education

Equality Now - against violence and for gender-equality

Women's International League for Peace and Freedom - Women's peace movement

Quota International - empowering women, children, deaf, hard-of-hearinf and speech imapaired

2. Join in social media

Remember about important actions on Twitter or Facebook - retweet&write&comment. There is bigger chance something will be noticed if it becomes popular on Internet!

Today is a great chance to get into Women's matters using Twitter trend: #WomensDay

The men can also support the latest action #HeForShe about which let Emma Watson say something:

3. React.

Do you see the girl from your class is badly treated? Stand in her defence! Be brave! Like Emma said: if not you, who?
Do you hear terrible slurs about women? Your best friend was called "bit*h" for example?
Say something! If not you, who?

4. Respect yourself

It may seem suprising but this is the first step you should do if you think about fight for equality and respect for women.
Take care of your health, take care of your body. Don't let others judge or injure you. Get up every day and in the mirror say to yourself: "I'm beautiful". I know, how hard it is, but at leats try. Because you really are. All women are beautiful if they believe in it.

                                                               REFLECTIONS

At the end of my post I want to share with you some inspiring words said to all women.
Read them and have a rest you really need today.
